Richard Towers, Director Low Pay Unit
Richard Towers, appointed Director of the Low Pay Unit in January 2002, worked in the civil service for twenty years. During this time he was particularly concerned with issues of equality of opportunity, human resources (including management development) and training – both policy and practice. He worked on projects looking at government training schemes and inner city residents and at equality of opportunity in programmes for young people.
Since leaving the service Richard has worked as a consultant in a broad area of work, mostly of it focussing around organisational development. In this capacity he has experience of the public (national and local), arts and private sector. He has worked in the voluntary sector as a volunteer and a trainer.
Richard was pleased to be offered the LPU’s Directorship as it provides the opportunity to contribute to the important work of a nationally respected research and campaigning organisation.
